Back by popular demand, Barons Backroom Beer Pairing announces Pizza Port Brewing Company as the partner for its upcoming food and local brew speakeasy. On Wednesday, September 30, each of the market’s five Southern California locations will transform loading docks and stock rooms into quaint speakeasies for beer and food lovers. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Barons will donate proceeds to two cancer support organizations: Michelle’s Place in Riverside County and Cancer Angels in San Diego County.

Michelle’s Place, a Temecula-based breast cancer resource center, provides emotional and educational support to anyone living with breast cancer in Riverside County. Cancer Angels of San Diego provides direct relief to San Diegans struggling with severe financial difficulties due to the costs of stage IV cancer. According to Cancer Angels, there are more than 12,000 people in San Diego County currently going through cancer treatment, 3,000 of them stage IV.

In addition to eating and drinking for a cause, Barons hosts its Backroom Beer Pairings to support local breweries and bring the community together for an evening with neighbors and friends.

Guide to Summer Wines

Posted in Alpine, Blog, Cheese, News, Point Loma, Products, Rancho Bernardo, Temecula, Uncategorized, Wildomar, Wine

We love summer!

The warm(er) weather, long days and summertime cuisine are calling our name. Add a perfectly paired glass of wine into the mix and we might have just found heaven on earth.

Summer Wines Blog 1

Sandy Hanshaw, fellow local business owner and wine pairing extraordinaire, offered her expertise to create a “Guide to Summer Wines.” Sandy’s restaurant, The Wine Pub, brings neighbors and friends together in Point Loma for an extraordinary selection of handpicked wine, craft beer and gourmet food. Sandy helped us pair some of her favorite wines with classic summer dishes you can find at any Barons Market.

Summer Wines Blog 2

For soft cheeses, pair with sparkling wines and a dry rosé. The French Rosé The Wine Pub is pouring right now is delicious with crisp notes of green apple and pear.
For fruit salad, go with a complementary fruit wine. Try a white blend or light Pinot Noir. I particularly enjoy a white blend from Paso Robles that is a delicious compliment to many dishes.
For spring salads, always pair with Sauvignon Blanc. You can choose a domestic one or go New World with one from New Zealand.
For warm days, choose from any of the wines mentioned above and you won’t be disappointed. My personal favorite at The Wine Pub is our Belle Cassel Prosecco. I just love enjoying a glass of bubbles on a warm San Diego day.

Summer Wines Blog 3

Pairing wine and hosting summer parties doesn’t have to feel intimidating. Swing by your local Barons to try the pairings above or try a taste at The Wine Pub. Now you’re well on your way to the perfect taste of summer we’re all craving. Cheers!

Barons Market and Garage Brewing unite coveted microbrews with bite-size freedom foods.

Barons Market presents brews from Garage Brewing paired with untraditional 4th of July appetizers to create flavors that will explode like taste-bud fireworks. Join us for our first store-wide Barons Backroom Beer Tasting on Wednesday, July 1 at ALL five Barons Market locations.

 The collaborative menu features:

  • Garage Brewing Belgian Trippel paired with Barons white chicken chili and Tacupeto chips
  • Garage Brewing Hatch Chili IPA paired with pulled pork sliders
  • Garage Brewing Double IPA (new release!) paired with roasted red pepper, blue cheese and tri-tip sandwiches
  • Garage Brewing Marshmallow Stout paired with Barons chocolate-chip cookie ice cream sandwiches

A brewery less than two-years old from Temecula, Garage Brewing brings a fresh flavor to the beer-pairing event that local microbrew aficionados may not recognize. The July 1 tasting provides an opportunity to discover up-and-coming breweries in Southern California outside of San Diego.

Consistent with previous Backroom Beer Pairings, Barons plans to donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the July 1 event to the San Diego Food Bank.

To celebrate Independence Day with BBQ bites and glorious local brews, head to any Barons Market from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1. Space is limited, so purchase your $10 tickets HERE.

Shaking things up with Vegan Smart Demos – April 17th

Posted in Alpine, Blog, Events, In the News, Locations, News, Point Loma, Rancho Bernardo, Temecula, Uncategorized, Wildomar

Vegan Smart Picture

Protein generally comes in perishable form (eggs, meat, beans and cheese) so finding convenient and portable sources can be tricky. Two popular options for health-conscious people on the go are whey and plant-based proteins.

Walk this Whey…
Whey is a byproduct of cheese which is made with milk. Once cheese has been created, the milk used creates a liquid. That liquid is further processed and that’s how you get whey. Since whey is a dairy byproduct, it is a complete protein and low in lactose content. Even though it’s low in lactose content, what little lactose it has is just enough to keep you feeling full, which can help with appetite management and ultimately, weight loss.

Unless you have that ‘Vegan Feelin’
Plant based proteins are also great, but a single serving of it is not complete. The way to ensure you’re meeting your daily protein goals is to combine plant-based proteins. That handful of walnuts may not fit the bill, but add it to, say, a quinoa and black bean salad and you’re getting there.

If you need to get your plant-based protein on the go, we recommend Vegan Smart. This brand of protein combines pea, hemp, chia and potato protein sources into a complete mix. It’s healthy and comes in delicious flavors like vanilla, chocolate and chai – all vegan and naturally flavored and sweetened. Stop by and have a taste of Naturade’s Vegan Smart All-In-One nutritional shake in Vanilla, Chocolate, and Chai on April 17 at your local Barons and let us know what you think!
