Shop at Barons to Help End Hunger in San Diego

Posted in Blog, Community, Events, Family, In the News, News, Uncategorized

Alpine_CashierWhen we learned that one in five children in San Diego County doesn’t always have enough food to eat, we felt unsettled. Our hearts trembled. We had to help.

Come to our Point Loma location this Labor Day weekend and you may notice that the store looks a little different. More than fifty paper plates, hand-illustrated by children and families struggling with hunger in San Diego County, will be on display to kick off September’s Hunger Action Month. The colorful in-store art installation tells the stories of local families who don’t have enough to eat.

You can help fill their plates and brighten their futures. From Tuesday, August 30 through Tuesday, September 6, we invite you to donate to San Diego Hunger Coalition when you check out at any of our San Diego locations. Any amount will support the organization’s work to ensure that nobody in San Diego goes to bed hungry.

Good food can change a life. Good neighbors can too. Please stop in and join us.

Barons Murrieta Outside Sign

We’re thrilled to announce the opening of our sixth location at 40545 California Oaks Road in Murrieta. An 8 a.m. ribbon cutting with the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce and local elected officials will launch the opening festivities on Wednesday, January 27. Our Murrieta store will join Wildomar and Temecula as the third Barons Market location in the Inland Empire.

“As a family-owned market with good food at good prices, Barons Market’s community-centered approach naturally fits with the tight-knit neighborhood of Murrieta,” says Rachel Shemirani, vice president of marketing and daughter of Barons Market founder, Joe Shemirani. “This community has a unique culture that requires a special type of grocery store – one that not only opens a location in the neighborhood but integrates into the core of what makes it special.”

Key features of our newest store includes:

• Terrific selection of organic, natural and specialty foods
• Collaboration with local farms to bring customers the best quality and freshest produce
• Products cost 25 – 30 percent less than traditional supermarkets. No gimmicks, no sales, and no club cards. Just everyday low prices
• Hot soup bar, fresh salad bar and antipasto bar
• The selection of over 500 gluten-free items is centralized in one location of the store so gluten sensitive customers can easily find them
• With over 400 microbrews, it stands as the go-to craft beer store in Southern California
• Through store design and product selection, Barons has created a ten-minute shopping experience for busy customers

Grand Opening festivities will continue through the weekend. We can’t wait to meet you!

The Trick to Halloween Treating

Posted in Blog, Family, Local, Locations, Uncategorized

Halloween Cuties

We love Halloween, but we know it’s not the healthiest of holidays. Have no fear, Barons has everything you need to make Halloween festive without consuming a scary amount of artificial sugar.

First, before you walk your spooky sidewalks trick-or-treating, have a healthy and hearty meal at home. Afterwards, you’ll be full of energy and won’t crave sugar – too much.

Make Halloween dinner fun for the little ghouls and goblins at your table. Sweet potatoes, carrots and mac and cheese add touches of orange while simultaneously providing a nutritious meal everyone enjoys. Carrots and sweet potatoes, also orange, contain beta-carotene – a vitamin important for healthy eyes navigating in the dark.

Wash your meal down with spiced mulled apple cider – a delicious seasonal beverage you can enjoy hot or cold. Heat it up for a drink that’s warm and cozy, or sip it cold through a straw and avoid ruining your face paint.

Now, nobody wants to be the neighbor handing out raisins, but you can still hand out candy that isn’t full of processed sugars. Barons has organic lollipops, all-natural gummy fruit snacks, organic Justin’s peanut butter cups and mini Chuao chocolate bars in all kinds of unique flavors.

And remember, if you do end up handing out raisins, you didn’t get them from us.

She led guests through the store, explaining everyday low prices, organic and local produce, craft beer and wine selection, gluten-free section, bulk foods, self-serve coffee bar and the multitude of on-the-go lunch options, including the salad bar, antipasto bar, soup bar and fresh ready-made sandwiches.

“We’ve designed our store to make your shopping experience less than 15 minutes, whereas you would spend 45 minutes in a typical supermarket. We love you, but we don’t think it should take you that much time to grocery shop.”

Attendees ooh-ed and aah-ed at the pristine store, asking Rachel questions, making mental shopping lists and discovering that Barons is much more than a place to buy groceries. It’s a family-owned, all-natural market with the lowest possible prices and friendliest people. Here, you’re treated like family.
